In another 2 years, people travelling from Palm Grove hotel to Potters area on the Kodambakkam High Road in Chennai would be able to witness a 4lane 570m long flyover there.
The latest news is that GCC or Greater Chennai Corporation has floated tenders for that. By the month of June 2024, the work is scheduled to start and it will get completed in about 2 years.
It must be remembered that for the last 2 years the flyover construction work here has been delayed due to land acquisition issues. Information gathered is that just a week back, the Rs 64.5cr project got green signal. Point is that all the stake holders have agreed to sell their properties to GCC. There would be 4 lanes in this flyover and it would be 14m in width.
It must be noted that this flyover would begin at Palm Grove hotel and end at Potters area in Kodambakkam High Road. This was mentioned by Mr. S. Rajendiran, GCC engineer. He spoke about how 10000 sqm of land needed to be procured and how 8000 sq m belonged to the government and the rest 200 sqm belonged to private landowners. He concluded that all the private landowners have agreed to sell their lands at market rates itself.
There has been heavy traffic congestion here due to the metro rail works. It is now said that the congestion would increase due to the flyover construction. The construction of one arm of the flyover would begin first and this would be to minimise the impact on traffic. It is superb to note that in the longer run the flyover would decongest the important junction in all 4 ways. It is noteworthy that an average of 10000 vehicles would cross the stretch in one hour.
