Southern Railway announced that over 50% of the redevelopment works have been completed as part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme at Chennai Park railway station, a project valued at 10.68 crores. The station, located in the heart of the city and opposite Chennai Central railway station, serves as a crucial connection point in the Chennai Beach – Chengalpattu Section of the Chennai Division.
The station`s major redevelopment includes a new booking office with an executive lounge, a new canopy at the entry with waiting space near the booking office/cafeteria, and resurfacing of platform flooring for smoother movement, benefiting all passengers, including those with disabilities.
Other developments entail the creation of a pedestrian walkway towards MRTS stations and Poonamallee High Road entry, provision of new platform shelters and replacement of old roofing sheets, additional platform shelters and seating arrangements, installation of lifts (3 Nos) for the existing FOB with hand railing, implementation of a passenger information display system, enhancement of public announcement systems, modern signage, and installation of CCTVs.
Regarding the redevelopment works, 50% completion has been achieved for resurfacing the flooring on Platforms 1A, 1 & 2. Works such as platform shelters and landmark tower construction are nearing completion, with ongoing efforts to install lifts, enhance canopies, and upgrade telecom facilities.
