After a temporary suspension, toll increases are back in action across Tamil Nadu, affecting 36 toll booths immediately and over 200 nationwide. Originally slated for April 1st, these hikes, ranging from 5 to 10 percent, are now in full swing following the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections.
With the electoral process out of the way, the Union Ministry of Road Transport has greenlit the annual uptick in toll rates. This move affects a significant portion of Tamil Nadu`s highways, encompassing 63 toll locations and spanning over 6,805 km.
Postponed due to the elections, the toll hikes are now hitting drivers` wallets, with fees rising at 54 booths in the state. Motorists traveling these routes will now face increased charges, ranging from 5 to 20 rupees, adding to their financial burdens.
The reintroduction of toll hikes underscores the ongoing struggles of commuters and raises broader concerns about transportation costs in the region. As drivers grapple with these changes, conversations about the impact on travel budgets and infrastructure funding are bound to intensify.
