The officials belonging to CMWSSB or Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board have mentioned that they would be setting up a circular water pipeline to connect all water sources with distribution points. By this, the residents in Chennai would get equal and uninterrupted water distribution.

Especially the south Chennai residents would get benefited as water would be supplied from any desalination plants once when the project gets completed. Water crisis would be avoided.

It is known that now drinking water gets supplied from the desalination plant and reservoirs to nearby places. Point to be noted is that during a crisis drinking water would be alternated through water tankers. According to a senior official from CMWSSB, once a circular water pipeline project gets established water from the sources and desal plants would be supplied across Chennai.

Currently, water from the Minjur desalination plant is supplied to the residents belonging to north Chennai only. The superb piece of information is that after the project gets completed then water can be supplied to any place in Chennai.

Huge need to integrate water management system:

It was brought out that the need to integrate water management systems has become more now because of the increased water demand in southern parts of Chennai.

Information collected is that CMWSSB has been supplying 1000 MLD of drinking water daily to Chennai and increased it to 1075 MLD during peak summer season. This is the highest amount of drinking water supplied since the Metro Water Board was started.

Uninterrupted drinking water supply from Chembarambakkam reservoir was carried out by CMWSSB. In addition to this, 150 MLD of drinking water from Nemmeli desalination plant was supplied to several places in Kodambakkam, Adyar, Alandur zones etc.

Chennai would get an additional drinking water source through 400 MLD Perur desalination plant. This plant would be completed by the year 2026.
