In Namakkal mandal, the price of eggs has increased by 10 paise, fixed at Rs. 4.80. The region boasts over 1,000 poultry farms spanning Namakkal, Salem, Erode, Perundurai, and Coimbatore, collectively rearing 6 crore laying hens. Producing approximately 5 crore eggs daily, the region supplies eggs to various destinations, including the Tamil Nadu government`s nutrition program and international markets. Additionally, eggs are trucked to other states like Kerala and different districts of Tamil Nadu for daily sale.
The National Egg Coordinating Council (NECC) has been dictating egg prices for farm cash sales, with recent increments noted. On the 7th, the price rose by 5 paise to Rs. 4.65, followed by another 5-paise hike on the 8th, reaching Rs. 4.70. In a recent NECC meeting chaired by Namakkal Mandal NECC President Singharaj, the egg price increased by 10 paise, setting the farm price at Rs. 4.80.
In major cities, egg prices (in paisa) stand at: Chennai 530, Barwala 431, Bangalore 515, Delhi 460, Hyderabad 445, Mumbai 545, Mysore 520, Vijayawada 475, Hosapete 465, and Kolkata 540.
Furthermore, the Poultry Price Control Committee (PCC) has announced live broiler chicken at Rs. 138, while the South Indian Poultry Farmers Association (SICA) has set the price of live chicken at Rs. 92 per kilo.
