There are many tourist buses or omni buses operating in the state of Tamil Nadu with registration in other states. Now, the transport dept has given these buses time till 13th of June to re-register with local RTOs. Action would be taken against these omni buses if they fail to get re-registered by that date mentioned.
It was confirmed by a recent analysis that vehicles with AITP or All India Tourist Permit were mostly plying in violation of the conditions under which the permission was given. This was brought out in a notice from the Transport and Road Safety Commissioner or State Transport Authority or STA.
Information is that according to Section 88 (9) of the Centre Motor Vehicle Act 1988 AITP permits are granted for contract carriages especially for the HMV omnibuses. These buses were permitted to transport tourists, pilgrims, those travelling for marriages etc point to point only.
It was found out by some officials that the omni buses have been picking up and dropping the passengers at multiple points and they act as stage carriage either inside TN or across 2 or more states. There has been loss of revenue to TN State as 650 omni buses operate in TN.
