In a relief to passengers, the state government has extended the operation of out-of-state registered omnibuses until the morning of June 18. This extension, granted in consideration of travel plans for the Bakrid holiday, follows appeals from the All Omni Bus Owners` Association.
Initially, the Transport Commissioner had denied the extension request due to time constraints and the holiday weekend. However, after discussions with Transport Minister SS Sivasankar, the deadline was extended to accommodate passengers.
Association president A. Anbalagan expressed gratitude towards the Minister and the state government for this decision. Previously, the Transport Commissioner had announced a ban on out-of-state omnibuses starting June 14, citing revenue losses and improper operation practices. Despite repeated extensions for re-registration, only 105 out of 650 vehicles have complied.
