The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on September 15 launched her ambitious scheme to provide packaged drinking water to long-distance bus commuters at a price of Rs 10 per litre. This was a great boon to the poor and middle class. The populist scheme envisages sale of `Amma` bottled water at bus stations in Chennai and all districts of Tamil Nadu. The water bottles will carry stickers of Jayalalithaa and would also be available on State Government buses.
The mineral packaged waters were supplied to 304 centres in Tamil Nadu. Because the water is priced Rs 10 there is a high demand for it among people. So now some restrictions have been imposed on the sales of packaged water since it should benefit one and all. Now it has been decided to sell one bottle per person.
Moreover there is also demand of cold water. Hence the authorities are planning to sell cooled water at a price Rs 12.
