Late-night showers in Chennai and its suburbs disrupted flight services at Chennai airport on Wednesday. Due to strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning accompanying the rains, flights were unable to land or depart on schedule.
Twelve incoming flights were forced to circle in the air before being able to land. Fourteen departing flights experienced delays. An Indigo Airlines flight from Kozhikode to Chennai with 70 passengers was diverted to Trichy, while a Delhi-Chennai Indigo flight carrying 158 passengers was redirected to Bengaluru.
Flights from cities such as Madurai, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Goa, and Varanasi had to hover before safely landing once the weather improved. Additionally, fourteen outbound flights to destinations including Dubai, Kuwait, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Delhi, Jaipur, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Thiruvananthapuram took off late due to the storms.
