Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments minister Mr. PK. Sekarbabu caught the attention of many yesterday in the Assembly. The reason is that he mentioned about so many new things that would be coming up in Chennai in the future. He hinted that the traffic signals in Chennai would be powered by solar energy in the future. This solar energy project would be implemented at a cost of Rs 5 crores. It is well known to us that Sekarbabu is also the chairman of CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
Improvement in the pedestrian subways:
The minister explained that 10 pedestrian subways especially like the ones near the Beach railway station, central railway station, Guindy railway station, 1000 lights railway station and DMS station etc would be improved at Rs 8 crore.
Creation of Marina Heritage Corridor:
It must be noted that at an amount of Rs 10 cr Marina Heritage Corridor would be created between Light House and Island Grounds. This was according to the minister Mr. Sekarbabu. He added that at an amount of Rs 20 cr as many as 10 public libraries in the city would be converted into e-learning centres. For CMA or Chennai Metropolitan Area, a flood control map would also be developed to manage emergency situations.
It is said that the CMDA would be renovating the wholesale market complex at Koyambedu plus improving the eco-park at Chetpet. In addition, CMDA would also redevelop the bus stands in places like Padianallur, Avadi and T. Nagar etc plus restore the lakes at Porur and Perungudi etc in Chennai. For Anna Salai and for OMR, local area plans would be prepared.
The CMDA minister Mr. Sekarbabu later spoke about how there was no need to shift the bus terminus from Kilambakkam to Koyambedu again. Point is that the present bus terminus at Kilambakkam is functioning well with about 75000 people using the facility on normal days.
Relaxation for getting completion certificates for buildings:
It is learnt that Mr. S. Muthuswamy, minister for housing & urban development department has announced the relaxation for getting completion certificates for the buildings that were less than 300 sq m in area and less than 14m in height. In the future, the department would also introduce a parking policy for Chennai plus M Plan (transportation planning course) at the School of Architecture and Planning or SAP at Anna University in Chennai.
