What do the railway stations in places like Central, Pallavaram etc have in common now?
If you have thought about the superb facilities present in these railway stations, then this article would surprise you!!
It is really shocking to note that the toilet facilities in these railway stations charge high rates from the users. The passengers are exploited now. Instead of Rs 5 for using the toilet facilities, the contract employees at Central railway station now charge Rs 10 from the passengers. It must be noted that the display board in this station has clearly mentioned that Rs 2 is being charged for urinals and Rs 5 for the use of toilet facility. The staff here mentioned that the excess Rs 5 was for the cleanliness of the toilets.
It was later brought out by Mr. Naina Masilamani, president of Arakkonam Rail Passengers Association that over charging has become common in many railway stations. He was unhappy regarding the lackadaisical attitude of the officials. He concluded that the commercial dept must do inspections to avoid contractors from over-charging the passengers for using the toilet facilities etc.
In the Pallavaram railway station, no sign boards were kept near the toilets to indicate the rate. Here, the employee charged Rs 10 for toilets and Rs 5 for urinals
As per the consumer activist, Mr. T. Sadagopan it was clear that charging high was an unfair practice. He threw light about how they must not have taken the tender for the amount given by the railways if they wanted to over-charge the passengers. He concluded that timely inspections must be present and how there must be a facility to complain when such incidents take place.
