The new airport in Parandur is expected to commence construction within six months following project clearance from the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO).
This follows the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation`s site clearance for the Kancheepuram district airport under the Greenfield Airports (GFA) Policy, 2008, granted by the Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports.
The proposal was reviewed and approved by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and the Indian Air Force.
"Site and project clearance are mandatory before starting work. We are preparing the project approval application and will approach the Steering Committee on Greenfield Airports soon. Additionally, we need to obtain the aerodrome licence from the DGCA. We aim to complete all necessary documentation within six months, with construction likely to begin by early 2025," sources said.
On March 14, TIDCO applied for environmental clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and is awaiting approval. As no forest land is involved, forest clearance is not required.
