In the northern part of Chennai is present Government Stanley Hospital and many patients come to this hospital for their treatment. This hospital is making news now.
Yesterday, 28th of July was World Hepatitis Day. Three hepatitis patients who have been cured shared their experiences with the patients who have been undergoing treatments at this famous hospital.
It is important to mention here WHO theme for 2024 is "Its Time for Action`. In the last 5 year, several vaccination camps were organised and more than 12000 people have been vaccinated.
In this hospital, as many as 800 Hepatitis B patients and 300 Hepatitis C patients are undergoing treatments currently and medications are issued free of cost.
Information is that about 60544 people have been screened in this hospital and 1713 have been found to be Hepatitis B positive and 350 persons as Hepatitis C positive. The importance of early diagnosis and treatment to prevent severe complications etc were explained by Dr. Adarsh C.K.
Many persons in India have been affected with viral hepatitis and many cases of hepatitis B and C remain undiagnosed (despite improvement in treatment) resulting in advanced liver disease.
To fight against the epidemic and to lower the burden on the health care system, improvement in sanitation and health care infrastructure, vaccinations etc were needed. The children could get serious liver inflammation due to hepatitis is known. Therefore, parents must keep a check on their kids regarding the signs and must seek medical help as soon as possible.
