By September, GCC has planned to complete the works regarding intensive cleaning to remove waste from all the roads belonging to Chennai. This has been confirmed by GCC Commissioner Mr. J. Kumaragurubagan.
In Chennai, from 22nd of July, GCC has been conducting intensive cleaning work on the bus routes. This was mainly done to enable the buses to run smoothly and to help the public to walk on footpaths without any issue. It is known that Chennai Corporation has 488 bus routes with a length of 418km. The works have been monitored by GCC Commissioner and district deputy commissioners etc. Till now, more than 1000 tonnes of construction waste and garbage has been removed. The GCC has planned to complete these works by the month of September.
The Chennai Corporation has been removing old vehicles also that have been parked along the road side. On a trial basis in 3 zones belonging to GCC, the cleaning works along the bus route roads are being carried out from 22nd of July. From today, 29th July onwards, work would be extended to all 15 zones of GCC. The works would go on till 10th of August. Later on, intensive cleaning works would take place on the internal roads also and by September these works would be completed.
It is learnt that along with the intensive cleaning drive old vehicles left abandoned and lying on the road sides are also being removed. After getting the clearance certificate from the police dept, these vehicles would be auctioned.
