It is essential to make prior announcements before making any change. At the Chennai airport, many passengers were shocked and clueless as the taxi pickup point was shifted to the second floor of the multilevel car parking or MLCP without any prior announcement.
It is worth mentioning here that after the inauguration of MLCP at the Chennai airport the passengers normally would use the pickup point present on the ground floor (a few metres away from the exit gate) to get into a taxi or their vehicle etc. What led to the confusion among the passengers was yesterday the passengers were asked to walk about 1km and board the taxi from the second or third floor of MLCP.
Point is that those passengers who had more luggages were clueless and shocked due to the absence of prior announcement regarding the change. Not only lack of prior announcement about the change but also the low number of battery operated vehicles created issues for many passengers.
Many passengers spoke about how it was unfair to force them to go to the third floor of MLCP to board their vehicles. It was later explained by some officials belonging to the airport that MLCP was under the contract of a private firm and the firm decided to change the pickup point. As the pickup point was changed on a trial basis, prior announcement was not given to the passengers.
The private firm has changed the pickup point location to increase the waiting time plus to collect more fees from the passengers. This was brought out by some sources.
