Anna Centenary Library (ACL) has successfully transitioned from a referral to a lending library, lending 11,000 books in just four months. This change has increased membership from 5,500 to 7,200.
To meet the rising demand, ACL, overseen by the School Education Department, has acquired 80,000 new books. The library now offers over one lakh books for lending across three floors, including sections for children, Tamil language, and fiction.
Since March, several new initiatives, including corporate memberships, have boosted footfall and readership. The Tamil language section is the largest, with over 80,000 books, followed by 10,000 books each in the children`s and English fiction sections.
The recent acquisitions, costing Rs 3 crore, comprise 36,000 Tamil books and 44,000 English books, enriching the library`s diverse collection.
