Many people in Chennai travel in the metro trains these days. The news now is that CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited has signed a contract now to prepare a DPR or detailed project report from Koyambedu to Avadi at a cost of Rs 80.48lakhs.
Information collected is that M/s RITES Limited has been awarded the contract by CMRL for a proposed corridor via Padi Pudhu Nagar, Ambattur and Thirumullaivoyal. On 11th June 2024, the LOA or letter of acceptance was issued to M/s RITES Limited.
It is learnt that the proposed corridor would be 16km in length approximately and would have 15 metro stations. This was mentioned in the CMRL release. The statement pointed out that the preparation of DPR for the corridor is being undertaken taking into account IT Parks, industrial and thickly populated areas that are present along the corridor. By November month, DPR would be completed.
The total number of stations and details of land requirements etc would be finalised after an extensive alignment study during the DPR stage.
Mr. Siddique, MD of CMRL, Mr. T. Archunan, director (Projects) CMRL and Mr. T. Livingstone Eliazer CGM (PP-amp:D) represented CMRL and M/s RITES Ltd was represented by Mr. Sudeep Kumar Gupta, AGM/UE and an agreement was signed by them
It is learnt that CMRL on Wednesday signed a contract for the preparation of DPR for property development and for integrated land parcels at metro station entry/exit in the corridors 3 & 5
For a value of Rs 57lakhs, the contract was awarded to M/s SREI Infrastructure Finance Ltd and on 18th June a letter of acceptance was issued. There are plans from CMRL to generate non-fare revenue along with fare revenue. For the development of commercial spaces, in many metro station locations areas have been identified.
