Shocking!! Normal life affected in suburban south Chennai now?

The passengers belonging to suburban southern Chennai are totally unhappy now!!

From 23rd of July itself, the Southern Railways or SR has stopped operating suburban trains from 10:30 am in morning to 1:30pm in the noon between Pallavaram and Guduvancheri.

On Monday, 5th August, normal life was affected as many office goers, college students, women and senior citizens etc suffered as they could not get an alternative transportation. The government departments should have made alternative arrangements for these people but they haven`t done that till now.

Till 14th of August, the suburban trains have been cancelled for the sake of maintenance works at the Tambaram yard. The Guduvanchery railway station was brimming with passengers yesterday as many passengers came from Chengalpet to board the trains and to access other modes of transportation etc. Point is that there was a huge rush yesterday and many were hurrying to reach their offices, colleges etc. The cancellations of trains have led to many trains running late.

It was then brought to light by a regular passenger from Villupuram to Egomre that the cancellation of trains has led to traffic congestion now on the roads. He hinted that shifting between various modes of transportation is an issue now.

Making hay while the sun shines, the auto drivers have been grabbing this opportunity to fleece the public. It was revealed by a commuter that the auto drivers have been charging double the rate now.

To meet the demands of the passengers, additional buses have been operated by MTC but these buses were not sufficient.  It is shocking to note that the share auto drivers have also increased their charges. From Tambaram to Chrompet/Pallavaram, share auto drivers used to charge Rs 20 from the passengers. Now, the share auto fares have been increased to Rs 30 or even to Rs 40 for transporting the passengers between the above mentioned places.

As per a commuter, the buses were less on Monday when compared to the weekends. He spoke about how bus drivers stop the buses near Gandhi Road junction in Tambaram that is half kilometre away from the bus stop.
