It is common to get a spike in the blood sugar levels after consuming meals in those who are diabetic. After eating high carbohydrate foods or high GI foods, these diabetic persons could get blood sugar levels increase. To control the rise in the blood sugar levels, pancreas inside us secrete insulin and when sufficient insulin is not secreted then the person could get type 2 diabetes. Bitter fact is that type 2 diabetes in us could make us more prone for heart attacks or kidney issues etc. Those with high blood sugar levels in them would show several symptoms like increased thirst, anxiety, weakness, fatigue etc
It must be noted that the blood sugar spike after meals or post prandial could be avoided by these important ways.
By consuming more fibres:
It is noteworthy that fibres would add bulk to the food without breaking down. By this, glucose absorption would be slowed down. This would prevent a spike in the blood sugar levels.
By walking:
Many of us after heavy meals would take rest by sitting and this might raise the blood sugar levels after meals. Truth is that for blood sugar management, walking for a few minutes after consuming meals would be superb.
By reducing portion size:
There are chances of blood sugar spike after meals when we consume large amounts of food. The reason is that by eating large amounts of foods we eat large quantities of carbohydrates. Instead of one huge meal, try to eat many small meals.
By consuming low GI foods:
Point is that low glycemic index or GI foods would lead to less increase in the blood sugar levels after meals. Hence, it would be good to eat foods with a low GI of 55 or below that.
By sound sleeping:
Sound sleeping for 6 hours atleast is necessary to avoid a spike in the blood sugar levels after intake of meals. Sound sleeping would also help us to avoid a few other health issues also .Please take care.
By consuming enough water:
By drinking enough water after meals, more amounts of glucose could get flushed out. This could be helpful for those with diabetes.
By checking stress levels:
It has been found out by few research studies that high levels of stress could lead to spike in the blood sugar levels after meals. Therefore, we must try to manage our stress by doing meditation or yoga or breathing exercises etc.
