Tomorrow, 7th September, Vinayagar Chathurthi will be celebrated in Tamil Nadu. In this scenario, the special market is not opened at Koyambedu in Chennai.
Now, the regular traders of Koyambedu market have complained that their business has been affected because the traders have been selling the puja items brought by lorries at the entrance of the market itself.
It is known that at Koyambedu market complex about 3941 shops have been functioning. Truth is that more than 20000 families are benefiting directly from this. In addition, about 10000 workers` families plus many motorists belonging to Chennai and its suburbs etc are also benefited.
It is usual practice to open a special market at the Koyambedu market complex during vinayagar chaturthi festival just similar to Pongal and Ayudha Puja festivals. The main advantage of the special market is that it would have all the important items needed for that particular festival and the items would be sold at affordable prices.
After the Coronavirus spread in Chennai etc and also due to high traffic congestion, this special market has not been opened. Now, in this year too, the special market has not been opened. In this scenario, on the important occasion of vinayagar chathurthi festival many traders have brought the necessary items through lorries. The traders have entered the 4th entrance at the fruit market here and have started to do their business directly. As a result, the regular traders at the Koyambedu market complex have been affected badly.
It must be noted that the traders who bring the goods in the lorries must drop the items at the shops present at the market at Koyambedu. This direct selling of the items by them is a violation. Though the market management has been watching these by means of CCTV cameras, no action has been taken yet. This was according to the regular traders.
