The Tamil Nadu School Education Department is prioritizing school development for the 2024-25 academic year with a Rs 7,500 crore project. This initiative includes building additional classrooms, laboratories, and hostels across government high and higher secondary schools.
Plans include constructing 2,394 new classrooms, 51 labs, and ten hostels for 418 schools at a cost of Rs 813 crore. Additionally, the Directorate of School Education’s 2022-2023 proposal for toilets, compound walls, and hostels is progressing. For the 2023-24 financial year, Rs 215 crore has been allocated for 844 classrooms, 21 science labs, 184 toilets, and 700 meters of compound wall in 173 schools.
Between 2021 and 2024, Rs 394 crore has been invested in 8,209 hi-tech labs in various schools. For the current academic year, funds are designated for hi-tech labs in 654 government-aided higher secondary schools. These upgrades aim to enhance teaching and learning experiences through modern, interactive classroom environments.
