Resident Welfare Associations will soon participate in awareness programs, and zonal-level meetings will monitor the situation regularly.
The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has mobilized volunteers to assist in flood-prone areas. A study by the GCC after last year`s Cyclone Michaung highlighted inadequate stormwater drainage and the absence of floodplain laws as key factors contributing to flooding.
State Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam recently reviewed monsoon preparations with officials from revenue, waterworks, and disaster management departments. He urged the completion of ongoing work and deployment of rescue equipment in vulnerable areas. Separate meetings with officials from Chennai, Tambaram, Avadi, and nearby districts also focused on flood mitigation efforts.
