Madras University Convocation on September 24: Certificates Without Vice-Chancellors Signature!

The University of Madras will hold its convocation on September 24, following approval from the senate. This event is notable as students will receive degree certificates without the vice-chancellor`s signature due to the vacancy in the position for several months.

In August, the Tamil Nadu governor`s office mandated all state-run universities to conduct convocations by October 31. Currently, five universities lack vice-chancellors.

The Raj Bhavan instructed the vice-chancellor convenor panel to ensure timely convocation processes. A senior official confirmed that the senate agreed on the September 24 date, with a syndicate meeting scheduled for final approvals.

Over 80,000 students completing UG, PG, and PhD programs will benefit from this convocation, which will also honor more than 100 PhD students who earned gold medals. Top rank holders in UG and PG programs will be recognized as well. Due to space constraints, eligible students unable to attend will have their certificates sent to their respective colleges.

Each certificate will indicate the absence of the vice-chancellor`s signature.
