The first set of trains for Chennai Metro Rail Phase II has been completed and moved to the testing bay at Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Manufacturing began in February at Alstom Transport India Limited, with car body assembly followed by equipment installation.

The first train was transferred for testing in the presence of officials, marking the start of trials. Once testing is complete, the train will be delivered to Poonamalle depot for further trials and safety checks before passenger operations.

Alstom was awarded a ₹1,215.92 crore contract for 36 driverless trains, including design, manufacturing, and testing.
