Spreading scientific awareness among the public is heading in the right direction!!
At the famous Birla Planetarium in Kotturpuram, Chennai Science Festival of the TN government started yesterday and this grabbed the attention. It is noteworthy that the science city functioning under the TN Higher Education department is carrying out several activities with the aim of spreading scientific awareness among the public. In this regard, from 2008 onwards, a science festival has been organised.
This year, the science festival is being held at the Birla Planetarium in Kotturpuram in Chennai from yesterday onwards. Yesterday, the minister for higher education Mr. Ponmudi made his presence felt at the Birla Planetarium and he inaugurated the science festival here
People visiting this science festival would be surprised to come across science fair halls, demonstrations, laser light & sound shows etc.
When to visit:
On 26th September, the public can visit this science festival in Chennai from 10am in the morning to 5pm in the evening.
The minister spoke about how the science festival was started in the year 2008 during the DMK rule and how the science festival was held every year. It is learnt that in 2024 science festival as many as 75 science exhibition halls have been set up.
Various higher education and research institutes that have set up exhibition halls now are Indira Gandhi Atomic Energy Research Centre, Anna University, IIT-M, University of Madras, Central Institute of Dermatology and Indian Medical Directorate.
It is superb to note that the students would be able to develop their science knowledge in this 3 day science festival. Other important personalities who also made their presence felt at Birla Planetarium yesterday were Mr. Pradeep Yadav, who is the secretary for Higher Education and Mr. Dev Rajdev, who is the vice president for Science city.
