Gone are the days, when the residents and other private organisations dumped their construction waste in the public places and near the water bodies etc in Chennai and escaped punishment!!
The news that has come out now is that the Greater Chennai Corporation or GCC Commissioner Mr. Kumaragurubaran has made it very clear that the individuals and organisations must dump their construction waste or debris only in 15 locations in Chennai and not everywhere. If not, they would be penalised.
It is now said that to prevent illegal dumping of construction and demolition waste of C & D wastes in public places, private truck owners are supposed to follow certain regulations set by the Chennai Corporation.
Point to be noted is that the local body has allocated 15 designated locations in Chennai with one site in each zone for waste disposal. The persons who dump their construction debris in the public places or near the water bodies etc would be penalised from now on.
To keep Chennai city neat and clean, GCC has been taking lots of efforts in known. Now, GCC has decided to levy fines of Rs 2000 to Rs 5000 on those who do not put effort to keep the city clean.
It must be taken into account that GCC has privatised the collection of construction wastes in 7 GCC zones like Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam and Adyar. From these zones, the illegally dumped waste is taken to the designated locations of GCC. From the remaining 8 GCC zones, the waste collected is transported directly by the GCC to low lying areas and other places.
From those individuals and shopkeepers etc who have dumped their waste illegally near the water bodies in Tondiarpet (Zone4), GCC has collected a fine amount of Rs 2.05 lakhs.
