To prevent flooding during the northeast monsoon, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has built a new storm water drain (SWD) on Second Avenue, Indira Nagar, Adyar. A CMRL official confirmed that connecting the SWD will be done in coordination with the Corporation.
Earlier, on September 25, the area was flooded due to CMRL’s temporary blockage of the existing SWD to construct a diaphragm wall. The blockage has now been removed.
An official stated that while the new SWD is ready, connection work will proceed soon, though construction will pause for two months due to the monsoon.
Residents, including S Ganapathi Shankaran, have raised concerns over traffic disruption and flooding caused by buses rerouted through the area, requesting CMRL to shift bus stops to Gandhi Nagar.
