The Regional Meteorological Centre or RMC in Chennai has revealed that from today 1st October till 4th October there would be heavy rains in some districts belonging to Tamil Nadu.
According to a press release issued by the RMC, a low atmospheric air circulation is prevailing now over Kanniyakumari Sea and over places in TN. As a result, light to moderate rains with thunder and lightning would occur in some places in TN from today till 6th of October.
The press release added that there would be heavy rains in the hilly areas of Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Thirupatthur and Salem districts today and at 1 or 2 places in the above districts and in the Theni and Dindigul districts tomorrow.
There would be heavy rains in one or two places belonging to the delta Districts of Thanjavur,Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore, Pudukottai and Ramnad districts on 3rd October and the above said districts plus in the Chengalpet, Villupuram, Puducherry and Karaikal districts on 4th October.
In Chennai and in its suburbs, the sky would be partly cloudy and light to moderate rains are likely to occur in some parts of the city.
In the 24 hours that ended at 8:30 am yesterday, maximum rainfall of 9cm was recorded in Kayalpattinam in Thoothukudi district. 8cms of rain were recorded in Coonoor in Nilgiris dist and Palayamkottai in Nellai dist. It must be noted that 7cm rains were recorded in Kotagiri in the Nilgris dist, Kayathar in Thoothukudi dist and Karupanadhi dam in Tenkasi dist etc
The fishermen have been asked not to venture into the sea as the cyclonic winds of speeds 35kmph to 55kmph are likely to occur in Gulf of Mannar, southern TN coastal places and Kumari Sea areas etc.
