At a cost of Rs 275 crores, tune fishing harbour has been constructed at Tiruvottiyur. This harbour would be opened for use by December end.
It must be recollected that the construction work began in the year 2019. The tune fishing harbour was mainly built to make the lives of the fishermen easy.
It is known to us that the fishermen from Ennore to Kasimedu take their fibre boats etc from Kasimedu fishing harbour. As a result of this, many boats have been stationed at Kasimedu and this has led to space problems now in Kasimedu. The customers and traders face many issues here due to absence of basic facilities etc.
To construct a fishing harbour at Tiruvottiyur, an amount of Rs 200 cr was allocated with funds from NABARD and state govt etc. Additional funds of Rs 75 cr was allocated and work began at the total amount of Rs 275 cr.
It is now mentioned that in this tune fishing harbour at Tiruvottiyur as many as 400 power boats and 250 fibre boats could be accommodated easily. In addition, there are also facilities like footpaths, fish auction hall, boat repair centre, fishing net repair hall, rest room, parking lot, restaurant etc. The upcoming harbour could handle 60000 tonnes of fishes.
Ninety five percent of work ahs got over till now and the new tuna fishing harbour would be opened for use by December. By this, fish sales would increase and about 3000 persons would get employment.
