On Wednesday, the fishing activities would be suspended at the Thoothukudi coast due to the warning issued by the meteorological dept. On the notice board, a warning about rough weather has been put up. The fishermen have been asked not to go into the sea for catching fish.
The sources revealed that a fleet of 264 mechanised boats remained moored in Thoothukudi fishing harbour. Wind speeds of 45kmph to 55kmph would be expected now and this was according to Mr. R.J. Bosco, secretary of Thoothukudi Mechanised Boat Owners Association. It must be noted that heavy rains were predicted in Thoothukudi and in the nearby places.
Mr. Bosco spoke about how the long pending demand for multi-day fishing at sea has not been met till now. He is of the view that only when multi-day fishing is allowed then the lives of fishermen and boat owners would be assured. Information is that fishing by mechanised boats is from 9am to 5pm each day.
