The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) has issued a warning to consumers about a rise in water tax payment scams. Reports have surfaced of unauthorized individuals contacting consumers, demanding payment for outstanding water bills through UPI services like Gpay, PhonePe, and PayTM. These scamsters often threaten to disconnect water services if the payments are not made.
To avoid falling victim to such fraudulent activities, CMWSSB advises consumers to use only the official payment platforms: [cmwssb.tn.gov.in](https://www.cmwssb.tn.gov.in) or [bnc.chennaimetrowater.in](https://bnc.chennaimetrowater.in/#/public/cus-login). For UPI payments, consumers can select the "utilities" category under the bill payment option and choose CMWSSB.
Alternatively, payments can be made in person using cash, cheque, demand draft, or credit card at any of the 15 zonal offices and the headquarters. Bills can also be settled by scanning the QR code at collection centers or using iPos machines carried by CMWSSB zonal managers.
For any assistance, consumers can reach the CMWSSB helpline at (044) 4567 4567.
