On Sunday, deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu Mr. Udayanidhi Stalin made his presence felt at Salem. He spoke about the extension of the Kalaignar sports kit scheme in the urban areas. Point is that this scheme that is present now only in the villages would be extended to urban areas also soon. This would be done after the approval from the chief minister Mr. M.K. Stalin.
It must be recalled that this scheme was launched in February to provide sports kite to beneficiaries from 12525 panchayats in Tamil Nadu at the cost of Rs 86 cr. Till now, the kits have been distributed in 26 districts in Tamil Nadu. In 2023, about 6lakhs people participated in the CM Trophy Sports event and in 2024 about 11lakhs have taken part.
Information collected is that Salem district has moved from 19th in 2023 to 3rd in 2024. In the same way, Namakkal district has moved from 13th in 2023 to 9th in 2024.
As per the deputy chief minister, the Dravidian model of the government is a golden period for women. In the last 3 years, the SHG or self help groups of women were provided with loan amounts of Rs 96000 cr.
