What is diwali without bursting firecrackers?

Deepavali day is fast approaching now and there is some good news for the Chennaites. Yesterday, TUCS had issued a notice or arivippu for setting up firecracker shops at the famous Island Grounds in Chennai. The shops have been allocated and it has planned to begin the sale of firecrackers from tomorrow.

It must be recalled that Mr. Natarajan, president of Chennai Crackers Welfare Association had filed a case in the High Court of Madras regarding the lack of transparency in the tender for the sales of fire crackers and he had sought an order to conduct tender process in a fair manner.

It was mentioned in the petition that some conditions in the tender notification regarding setting up of fire crackers shops at Island Grounds in Chennai must be removed. A revised tender was sought out. Point is that the tender for setting up fire cracker shops at Island Grounds has been transferred from TNTDC to the co operative society. Yesterday, the HC judge ordered that TUCS or Thiruvallikeni Urban Cooperative Society conduct the tender for setting up of fire cracker shops at the Island Grounds.

In this scenario, TUCS had published the tender notice yesterday on behalf of the TN govt. For those shops from 1 to 8 Rs 2.25lakhs has been fixed. Similarly, for those shops from 9 to 24 Rs 4lakhs has been fixed and for shops from 26 to 38 Rs 5.60lakhs, for shops from 42 to 50 Rs 3 lakhs has been fixed. The fire crackers shops would be allocated based on the above said amounts and from tomorrow onwards sales would start at Island Grounds in Chennai.
