The Tamil Nadu coast is bracing for a potential depression or cyclone that may make landfall between Parangipettai and Chennai around 30th November. The weather system is expected to bring heavy to extremely heavy rainfall to Chennai and its neighboring regions.
According to Tamil Nadu Weatherman, here’s the forecast for Chennai:
- 27th November: Light to moderate rains due to the northward movement of the system.
- 28th November: Moderate rains as the system continues its northward journey.
- 29th November: Heavy rains are likely as the depression/cyclone starts moving westward.
- 30th November: Very heavy to extreme rainfall as the system crosses the coast south of Chennai. This position is ideal for filling the city`s catchments.
- 1st December: Moderate rains due to the pull effect of the system.
- 2nd December: Persistent moderate rains from the pull effect.
Post landfall, the system is likely to move inland, bringing rains to areas such as Ranipet, Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, and the Kongu belt, offering much-needed respite to these regions.
