For creating awareness regarding various cyber crimes that are taking place, the central govt is working to create new apps. In this scenario, the government has developed a new app to replace the China based True Caller application. It is now said that the central govt is showing seriousness in controlling cyber crimes through this new app.
Many crimes take place across India with the help of smart phones. Bitter fact is that many of these cyber crimes don`t come to the police department`s attention also. This is because many people do not come forward to report their involvement in the cyber crimes to the police. This includes sexual harassment also.
The director of National Cyber Security Research Council or NCSRC, Mr. Nagraj mentioned that the central govt has listed 24 types of cyber crimes such as digital extortion, crimes against women and children, sexual harassment, illegal money transfer, novel fraud regarding drugs etc. He spoke about how when a person gets a cyber call he or she must immediately report that to the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal or call 1930. On this portal, the nature of 24 cyber crimes has been explained in detail.
He cited examples like how links would come from e-commerce companies and people must not click the link. Truth is that by clicking the link our hard earned money would be wiped off. Another example is when a person loses a mobile phone then he or she must immediately report their mobile phone`s IMEI number on CEIR or Central Equipment Identity Register portal. The mobile number of the lost device would be monitored by the central government once the person registers in this portal. Any misuse would be prevented.
Not many would know that by registering the Aadhar number in the central government`s portal sanchar sarathi gov.in, information regarding the number of sim cards available for a person could be obtained. Deactivation of unwanted sim cards could be done by registering on this portal.
Finally, Mr, Nagraj spoke about how a true caller app that is available in the smartphones is very dangerous. To protect the people, the central govt is now implementing CNAP or calling name presentation in states like Haryana, Maharashtra etc. Soon, this feature would be available throughout India and using this app would safeguard the public from fake calls etc.
