Chennai Food Festival 2024: Food Festival Begins at Marina with 100+ Dishes and Free Admission

The Women Self-Help Groups (WSHGs) Food Festival, organized by the Tamil Nadu Urban Livelihood Movement (TNULLM) under the guidance of the Tamil Nadu Women Development Corporation (TNWDC), began today at Marina Beach, Chennai, and will run until December 24. Admission is free. The event showcases a variety of nutritious, hygienic, and traditional dishes prepared by women from self-help groups across Tamil Nadu, emphasizing quality and taste comparable to leading restaurants. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin inaugurated the festival.

Over 150 women from 65 self-help groups are presenting more than 100 food varieties across 35 stalls, featuring dishes such as Coimbatore Kongu Mutton Biryani, Nilgiri Ragi Kali with Bean Curd, Namakkal Pallipalayam Chicken, Mayiladuthurai Prawn Vada, and Chennai Dahipuri. Additionally, 67 ready-to-eat items, including Ariyalur Roasted Cashew, Chennai Peanut Butter Laddu, and Trichy Manapparai Murukku, are available at six dedicated stalls.

The festival also features 45 types of handicrafts from various districts, available at three stalls. Visitors can enjoy the event from 4:00 PM to 8:30 PM on the opening day and from 12:30 PM to 8:30 PM from December 21 to 24. Free parking is arranged at Lady Willingdon College, the University of Madras, and Queen Mary’s College campuses. The festival offers an excellent opportunity to support women self-help groups while enjoying traditional Tamil Nadu cuisine.
