Passengers often feel frustrated at the Chennai airport due to the long time taken for immigration clearance. Soon, this could become a thing of the past.

The sensational news is that on Thursday, 16th of January 2025, Fast Track Immigration- Trusted Traveller Programme of FTI-TTP would begin at the airport in Chennai. This would shorten or reduce the waiting time for immigration clearance of the passengers. It must be recalled that in June 2024 the Indian government launched FTI-TTP to make the travel experience smoother for the passengers.

According to some officials from the Chennai airport, the facility was to open last August and the counters were also ready. Truth is that the programme was not inaugurated officially by AAI or Airport Authority of India and hence it was not started. For FTI-TTP, the passengers could register on the website www.ftittp.mha.gov.in. The details of the passengers would be verified by the Bureau of Immigration.

For proceeding to the next step, approved passengers would receive an email or SMS. It is worth noting that the next step would be the biometric enrolment at the Foreigners Regional Registration Office or a dedicated counter to enrol biometric details. After the completion of the registration process and the issuance of boarding passes etc, passengers could go directly into a dedicated counter for FTI- TTP and their faces would be scanned. After verification, the immigration process would get over.

On Thursday from the Ahmedabad airport, Mr. Amit Shah, Union home minister would launch the programme at 7 airports in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Cochin and Ahmedabad. From terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, the home minister has launched FTI-TTP in June 2024.
