More than 20 sewage pumping stations across Chennai will remain non-operational for 38 hours due to interconnection work on the sewer pipeline by the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL). This disruption is expected to impact four zones—Madhavaram (Zone 3), Thiru Vi Ka Nagar (Zone 6), Ambattur (Zone 7), and Anna Nagar (Zone 8).
Reason for Disruption
The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) announced that CMRL will carry out sewage interconnection work from 200 Feet Road near Madhavaram Rountana to the P2-C3 sewage pumping station at Moolakadai junction in Madhavaram.
Areas and Impact
- Madhavaram (Zone 3): 7 pumping stations will not function.
- Thiru Vi Ka Nagar (Zone 6): Villivakkam Sector A pumping station will remain non-operational.
- Ambattur (Zone 7) & Anna Nagar (Zone 8): Over 15 pumping stations will be affected.
Residents in these areas may experience sewage overflow and stagnation from 9 a.m. on January 22 to 10 p.m. on January 24.
