Renovation and infrastructural works would be carried out in all TN state run schools and this has been announced by the school education department. In this scenario, the department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has also released a set of guidelines for the use of funds under the MLACDS or Member of Legislative Assembly Constituency Development Scheme.
In 1997-98, MLACDS funds of Rs 25lakhs were used for the renovation and infrastructural works in the schools. In 2019-20, MLACDS funds have increased to Rs 3cr per constituency. According to the school education department notification MLA could select one or more works identified as important and preference could be given in rural and urban areas.
It is learnt from the notification that based on the requirements of a particular school one smart class room each may be provided in the govt panchayat union primary and middle schools. Based on the requirements of the schools, construction of new buildings for classrooms and toilets could be taken up. Point is that the school education department has also recommended the construction of anganwadi buildings or anganwadi baby friendly toilets, noon meal centres, noon meal kitchen sheds etc. For the purchase of furniture and equipment for government primary, middle, high, higher secondary schools etc, the funds could be utilised.
Cerebral palsy chairs would be purchased by the department and it would depend on the needs of the person affected with stroke and polio etc. To help the mentally challenged kids in the government special schools, learning kits would be purchased.
