Beware: Carrying crackers in trains is offensive

During Deepavali festival time, people tend to carry crackers. This is a great offence. The Railway Protection Force and the Tamil Nadu Railway Police have started checking baggage carried by train passengers.On the instructions of Additional Director General of Police R. Sekar, baggage checks started a week ago.Announcements are made on the public address system warning the travelling public about the hazards of carrying crackers on trains.

Two major reasons are cited for the illegal transportation of crackers on trains — the availability of crackers at cheap rates in Sivakasi and and low train fares.Sniffer dogs and hand-held explosives detectors are employed to detect the crackers. 

Passengers violating the Railway Act by carrying inflammatory goods are liable to be booked. They could be fined up to Rs. 2,000. The crackers will be confiscated.Passengers have been asked to alert the police or railway officials if they find anyone carrying fireworks on trains.
