Finally there is cheerful news because the Chennai Metro Rail will conduct the trial run of the four-coach metro rail imported from Brazil. The train is parked on the test track and power supply was fed to the machine to test different components.Air-conditioning, traction, lights, air compressors and other systems would be tested in the coming days. The train will not be run on the test track, but will be parked and connected to the overhead power cable, a network of signaling and other software systems to find out of all components perform as expected. Various tests will be done for 10 days before the rain is cleared for run on the 800m test track.
The train would be run on the viaduct only after all such tests are completed in the yard. The Koyambedu-Ekattuthangal stretch of the elevated line is completed.
The first set of signals to control the movement of metro rail trains has been installed on the test track which has a model of the network of tracks and stations on the line.
Unlike rakes of suburban trains, several extensive tests are required because the rake is automated and runs on pre-programmed inputs. Details such rate of acceleration, speed and distance between stations will be fed to the train through a communication system linked to tracks, stations, tunnels and motor cab.
After components are tested the rake will be put on trials on the test track. The train will be tested for safety and speed, signaling system, communication system and other mechanisms.
