There is a shortfall of rains by 30% in Tamil Nadu in this North East Monsoon.IMD officials pointed out that this may be compensated during the later stages of the season that extends till December. However, the next few days are not expected to see any heavy rainfall.
YEA Raj, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai said, “This year, the amount of rainfall under the North East monsoon has been below normal by about 30 per cent so far. But the North East monsoon can be very generous and within a week or so we might see a lot more rains. So, there are chances that the rainfall may be compensated later on during the season. Now, it is too early to say

However, light and passing showers can be expected in the next few days. This will be followed by a dry spell.
According to the IMD report on North East monsoon in Tamil Nadu since this November, Thiruvarar recorded the highest negative per centage departure (PDN) in rainfall (less by 69 percent followed by Ariyalur (by 67 per cent) on Monday.
