Tamil Nadu health minister Vijay Bhaskar has mentioned that those soon all medical colleges in the state would have correction clinics to eradicate the problem of club foot in children. One in 750 children is born with clubfoot, a congenital deformity which leaves a child with a bent foot and a limp. Earlier doctors corrected it with a surgical procedure, which did not give the expected results, and left the patient with a stiff leg. Now pediatricians use the non-invasive casting technique from the day the child is born.

The treatment was currently being provided by six centres in the state, and the Institute of Child Health in Egmore has performed 850 club foot corrections in children so far. About 1,600 children across the state have benefited from the treatment at government hospitals.
