Yesterday, the Tamil Nadu Government Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated Dr. A. Ramachandran’s Diabetes Hospital in Guindy at the Secretariat. This was watched via video-conferencing by a gathering of staff, well-wishers and patients at the five-storeyed complex.
Dr. A Ramachandran, chairman and managing director, Dr. A. Ramachandran’s Diabetes Hospitals, Egmore, said the new state-of-the-art facility would help improve and increase the reach of clinical care for diabetes, which is estimated to affect over 60 million people in the country.
Another important aim would be to evolve models for early diagnosis and management of diabetes.
The hospital has aspired for international standards in establishing facilities for comprehensive diabetes care under one roof.
The features of the hospital, which is spread over about 50,000 sq ft, include specialized ICU for diabetes emergencies, surgery theatres and exclusive divisions for pro-dental hygiene, nutrition, eye care, diabetes foot care and renal care.
