Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission has issued an order stating that apartments and residents planning to install solar panels on their terraces will have to use two meters. The first to record power consumption and the new one to record the solar power generated.
The second meter will be attached to the solar power generator and both meters will have to be on the same premises, the order said. It came into effect from Wednesday. The meter is mandatory for solar installations with a capacity of more than 20 KW. For installation size of less than or equal to 20 KW, the solar check meters is optional.
The power consumption of a building with a solar panel will be subtracted from the generation on a monthly or bi-monthly basis and if the consumption is more, then the consumer will have to pay the difference according to the tariff.
