While some areas faced power cuts for less than two hours, others faced cuts as per schedule. Tamil Nadu Electricity Board officials said power demand in the state continued to be lower for the second day.
Overnight rain in parts of the city and the state brought down the mercury and the demand. But industrial and commercial consumption continued to soar and the demand touched 10,000MW. The generation on Tuesday also touched 10,000MW with wind contributing around 500MW.
An official at the load dispatch centre in Chennai said, “The cool weather has kept the demand under manageable limits. Power cuts in some areas may be due to maintenance or repairs in the transformers. Though we had announced two-hour power cuts in Chennai, in the last two days the situation has been manageable and generation has also picked up. The total generation on Wednesday morning touched 10,398MW. Meanwhile, unit 1 of the Madras Atomic Power Station commenced operations on Monday after it was shut in November for maintenance.
