Aircel Company, for the sale of its mobile phone tower to other companies, needs to be paid Rs.175 Crores as tax, ordered by the Business Tax department. For its subscriber, the Aircel Company has placed the mobile phone towers across TamilNadu. It is found that, two years before the Aircel Company has sold its towers to other companies and for this case, the Business Tax department took a clamping step against the Aircel Company to pay rupees 175 Crores as tax.
The highest official from the Business Tax department stated that, when the entire
company is vended then there is no need to pay tax, but when a particular part of
the company is for sale, then it has to pay the business tax. Accordingly, the
Aircel Company during the 2010-2011, vended its tower. In that respect, the
Aircel Company failed to pay rupees 175 Crores as tax to the TamilNadu
Government. For the notice sent by the department, the Aircel Company applied
its case to the High Court with the payment of 17 Crore rupees. The case is
moving in favor of the Government and necessary preparation steps are going on
to get the amount from the Aircel Company.
