As a part of its outsourcing operation of its medical services, the Chennai Corporation is planning to use private doctors for its clinics in the evenings.
Private Doctors in local areas will be permitted to use the hospital buildings of the Chennai Corporation to offer free medical services in the evening clinics. 30 per cent of the doctors’ posts remain vacant. New doctors are reluctant to join Chennai Corporation hospitals.
Pharmacists and nurses at the hospitals will however be managed by the Chennai Corporation with medicines also being supplied free.
Most of the public find it convenient to come to the clinics in the evenings as they are preoccupied during daytime. So, the doctors in the daytime do not have much of a duty to perform. The evening clinics will benefit more than 18 lakhs residents in 2,500 slums in the city.
