Chief Minister inaugurated the scheme of provising free tube-light
fittings for the hutthe hut-dwellers. This was announced when the CM
inaugurated the opening of 49 new sub-stations at the cost of Rs .505 Crore.
The new substations are designed to ensure reduction in
transmission loss, reduction in maintenance cost, meeting the demand during
peak-hours and keeping the regulated voltage levels all the time.
Accordingly, the substations commissioned recently are:
Madurai, Mahatma Gandhi Nagar - cost of Rs 4.77 Crores (33kV), 2
substations of 230 kV at the cost of Rs. 5.11 Crores, 29 substations of 110 kV,
18 substations of 33 kV
Realising the importance of pollution-free solar energy
generation, solar energy policy 2012 has been formed and new projects have been
initiated. All renewable energy sources are also being considered.The solar
panel installed on the roof of the Tamil Nadu Power Generation and Distribution
Corporation`s Chennai Head Office building, built at the cost of Rs. 55.80 Lakhs
is set to generate 60 kilo watts of power or about 1 million per year on the
amount of the unit. This meets the daily power demand of the office as well as providing
additional power to the grid on holidays to offset a portion.
Free CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamps), which are more efficient
consuming less power, are being distributed free to the hut or slum dwellers.
40 MW if power is expected to be saved by this measure.Senior officials
participated on the occasion.
