Hotels across the city are doing their best to make sure you get to ring in the New Year with aplomb, the hotels are getting Priyanka Chopra to perform to offering baby-sitting services for parents to party. But just to make sure you’re as safe as you are spirited, most hotel and event managers are trying to get the ‘don’t drink and drive’ message across loud and clear.

From flashing safety messages all over their entry passes to instructing their staff to keep an eye on how much customers drink to hiring call taxi drivers in full force, it’s pretty clear safety is the primary concern this New Year’s eve.

At several private clubs in the city — like the Cosmopolitan Club and Madras Boat Club — members have been informed of call-taxi service tie-ups almost a week in advance. “We have been told that the club has tied up with a specific call taxi service. That is reassuring,” says Murali S, a club member.

At the Park Pod in Nungambakkam, amidst the text on celebrity DJs and deals on offer, the entry ticket also mentions clearly that “drunken driving is an offence” and requests guests to abide by rules. “We are bringing in the best DJs to the venue and are promising a great party. But we need to ensure the party ends as well as it started,” says Dinesh Raj, director of event management firm Quanta-G, which is organising the Pod event.

Pubs too are making the effort to make sure their customers get home safe. “We have hired many call taxi drivers so no guest has to wait fore a car,” says Arasu Dennis of Illusions-The Madras Pub.
